Hello Keto world!
My name is Jelena Apostolovic and I am a Certified Keto Coach and your guide to better and healthier nutrition.
I am very passionate about the ketogenic diet with a personal story behind it all and how this amazing journey started.
My interest in a low carb lifestyle began with my child being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2014.
It was a rough time for the whole family, adapting to a new routine and fearing what the future might bring.
As a dentist by profession, I already knew a lot about Type 1 but not a lot about real nutrition best for this condition.
And following S.A.D (Standard American Diet) upon recommendation of all the doctors turned out to be the worst solution!
Feeding my 2 years old child 30-45g of carbs per meal, really? This led to agonizing months of ups and downs in blood glucose readings, sleepless nights and emotional and physical burdens of a horrible disease…Until I found Dr Bernstein’s ” Diabetes Solution” and the whole community of Type 1 parents whose kids had normal blood sugars. Until I found out that with ketogenic lifestyle my child does not get just normal blood sugars but nutrient dense and tasty food, normal growth and a happier childhood. Since that moment I have never looked back.
I cannot say that it was easy, that we didn’t have setbacks and slipping of the road. My child was just 2 years old and it was hard work to do a complete makeover of our meals; ban all sweets, candies, juices, chips, everything kids around us were consuming. There were his tears, my tears and desperate days when I would say to myself” No, I cannot do it”. What keeps me going with low carb lifestyle is the thought that I want my son to live a healthy and long life, without the complications this terrible disease brings. We are still on the learning curve, but it makes me proud when he chooses water over juice on birthday parties and says no to cake frostings.
Are you at that point when you are fed up with low fat and high carb food that makes you sick, obese or fighting a chronic disease?
Every third person in America has diabetes or is on the verge of getting it, has chronic heart conditions or fights obesity with all the difficulties that come with it. And yet, dietary guidelines stay the same or get even worse to nation’s overall health. And we should be alarmed, really scared about what we are feeding our children and ourselves with. I think it is time to get back to our roots and choose foods that our ancestors consumed- whole food, quality meats and fats and veggies. It is time to get back in charge of our health and well-being.
Eating low carbs with a good amount of protein to keep your lean mass and enough saturated fats will nourish your body, help with weight loss, reverse metabolic syndrome (diabetes) and increase your energy.
The time for change is now. Let me help in your journey to healthier and better you.
